The Golden Beam Wetherspoons, a pub in Leeds, has applied for a late license extension after being banned from participating in the popular Otley Run bar crawl. The pub, which typically operates until 10:30 PM on weekdays and midnight on Friday and Saturday, now seeks to serve drinks until midnight on Sunday to Thursday and until 1:30 AM on weekends. Leeds City Council will review the application at a hearing on January 20th, considering both the pub's request and 22 objections from nearby residents and Headingley and Hyde Park councillor Tim Goodall. Goodall warns that extending the pub's hours could lead to increased alcohol consumption and a higher rate of drunk and disorderly crime. The Golden Beam previously served Otley Runners for five consecutive Saturdays in September and October using a Temporary Event Notice (TEN). The Otley Run, a 19-stop bar crawl, attracts thousands annually but has faced complaints of anti-social behavior, including violence, littering, and public urination.
