A Wintery Tale: The Scunthorpe United vs. Clitheroe Match Postponed
The eagerly anticipated FA Trophy match between Scunthorpe United and Clitheroe has been put on ice, quite literally!
Due to an unexpected drop in temperatures, the pitch at the Attis Arena became a frozen battlefield, posing risks to both players and spectators. But here's where it gets controversial: the decision to postpone wasn't made lightly, and it involved more than just the icy conditions.
The club considered various factors, including the safety of fans and the potential for travel disruptions. With the majority of supporters' well-being at heart, the decision was made early, before many had even set off on their journeys. It's a delicate balance between ensuring a fair game and avoiding unnecessary travel for fans.
And this is the part most people miss: the club's communication with Clitheroe FC and the appointed referee, Zac Kennard-Kettle, played a crucial role. A pitch inspection was conducted, and while the conditions seemed manageable on Friday, the forecast for the match day left little room for improvement.
So, the game is now rescheduled for Tuesday, January 13th, with a 7:45 pm kick-off. All tickets remain valid, and the ticket office will reopen on Monday to process any refund requests. Online orders can be refunded by emailing sufctickets@scunthorpe-united.co.uk with the necessary details.
While some may argue that the decision was made too soon, others will appreciate the club's proactive approach to fan safety. What do you think? Was the postponement necessary, or could the game have gone ahead despite the frosty conditions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
